Sending & Receiving — Chest Pass Fundamentals
What you get
✓ Victorian Curriculum 2.0 ✓ VTLM 2.0 Aligned ✓ Differentiation included
Learning Intention
I am learning to send and receive a ball using a chest pass with correct technique.
Success Criteria
I can grip the ball with fingers spread and thumbs behind (W-grip)
I can step forward with my opposite foot and push the ball from my chest
I can "give" with my hands on receiving to safely cushion the ball
Lesson Sequence · 50 min
WARM-UP · 8min
Shark Tag — students dribble a ball in a defined space. If tagged, sit and complete a mental maths challenge on a whiteboard before rejoining. Activates heart rate and focus.
SKILL · 12min
STEP cues: Elbows out → Step forward → Eyes on target → Push & follow through. Mirror drill in pairs (slow-motion). Teacher uses proximity praise and targeted feedback.
PRACTICE · 15min
Partner passing — 5 m apart, 10 passes then swap. Track personal best (cone target on ground). Extension: step back to 7 m. Support: use larger ball or allow a chest-height bounce pass.
GAME · 12min
3v3 Keep-Away — no running with the ball, 1 point per 5 consecutive passes. Applies technique under decision-making pressure. Teacher pauses for teachable moments.
EXIT · 3min
Traffic light self-assess — Green / Amber / Red card per success criterion. Two students share a success + one thing to practise next lesson.
📦 Basketballs × 1 per pair · cones × 10 · traffic light cards × 25 · mini whiteboards × 8

★★★★★
"I used to spend Sunday nights writing lesson plans. Now I spend 10 minutes on LessonLab and my whole week is sorted. The Term Planner alone is worth it."
